Shadow of the Giant, Orson Scott Card (TOR, 2006 {MacMillan Audio, Narrator: Scott Brick, David Birney, Cast})

Shadow of the Giant is the fourth book in Orson Scott Card‘s ‘Shadow’ series, thus part of the Ender’s Game world. Here at last we see the story line moving beyond Bean’s childhood issues to follow on with the ramifications of the end of the Bugger war (giggle) and the return to Earth of a school filled with supergenius’ trained to lead armies. A solid addition to the series, but it does get bogged down with political diatribes. for the full review go to http://www.sophyanempire.wordpress.com Continue reading

Ender’s Game: The Movie

I know I don’t normally review movies, but as that I have reviewed a large number of the Ender Series books here, I thought I should probably give a quite review of the recently released film. In short, I actually … Continue reading

Xenocide, Orson Scott Card (TOR, 1991{Macmillan Audio (2006), Narrators: Scott Brick, Gabrielle de Cuir, Amanda Karr, John Rubinstein, Stefan Rudnicki})

Xenocide by Orson Scott Card is the disappointing sequel to Speaker for the Dead and third volume of the Ender Wiggins series. While it has some interesting elements, it is mostly long discussions of Card’s personal philosophy and has a plot twist in the middle that forever changes an excellent Science Fiction world into a mediocre Science Fantasy one. Shadow Puppets, Orson Scott Card (TOR, 2003 {Macmillan Audio, Narrator: Stephan Rudniki and others})

Shadow Puppets is the disappointing third book in Orson Scott Card’s ‘Shadow’ series, thus part of the Ender’s Game world. Full of long drawn out political and social commentary about the present day world, the plot remains stuck in the last novel. Shadow of the Hegemon: Shadow Book 2, Orson Scott Card (TOR Book, 2001)

Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card is the readable but not great sequel to Ender’s Shadow, which by itself is as sequel of sorts to Ender’s Game. It answers the question of what happens on Earth after Ender’s Game, but fails to capture the greatness of that novel. For a full review go to http://www.sophyanempire.wordpress.com.
