Ghost Brigades, John Scalzi (TOR, 2006)

Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi is the sequel to his tremendously successful Old Man’s War, in which the author both succeeds and fails to live up to his potential. This novel focuses on the Colonial special forces, and manages to both deliver on some of his nefarious hints and fall a bit flat in his use of large info dumps. Even so, I enjoyed the tale for what it was and think that it will appeal to Military Science Fiction fans. For a full review, go to http://www.sophyanempire.wordpress.com Continue reading

Old Man’s War, John Scalzi (TOR, 2005)

Old Man’s War is John Scalzi’s fun, compelling far future war novel that pits an army of seventy-five year old men and women against the deadly threats from the rest of the galaxy. It is exciting war story that, despite frequently being predictable, is likely to appeal even to those who don’t generally like Military Science Fiction (my wife liked it).
